Page 12 Text

It’s a little more like the image of a caterpillar – enclosing itself in a cocoon in order to go through the metamorphosis

To emerge as a butterfly the caterpillar doesn’t say:
Well now. I’m going to climb into this cocoon and come out a butterfly.

It just an inevitable process

It’s inevitable

It’s just happening

It’s got to happen that way.

Commentary

This page sits in the middle of a few pages of narrative, arguing that the spiritual journey is not one that is chosen. It happens to you.

It’s the first time in the narrative that the word inevitable is used. Inevitable is an interesting word. It is somehow more overwhelming of a concept / hits harder than “no accidents,” which I was able to easily rationalize with Piece 4. I rationalized that the perception of no choice is the logical mind not being able to follow the arithmetic of the mechanical process that is karma. Somehow, the word inevitable holds a different connotation.

If you had asked me two years ago if one day I would be on “a spiritual Journey,” the answer would have been very easy: never. That’s just not at all what I have done in my life. As I write this, my logical mind is still offended and uncomfortable that this is even something I am doing now.

But I keep going. It just feels right.

The logical mind is never going to choose to diminish its control. Its job is to keep you as a living, prosperous, separate being; it is selfish by design.

Somehow, something, somewhere, cracked through the defense my logical mind had set up. It became possible to reason that I could be a prosperous, separate being and recognize my unity with the world simultaneously. It’s not something I planned or even wanted. But once I understood it, it was inevitable that I would keep going.

Also, as a side note, I love that this piece is what became number 42. I number these in order of creation and have no thought as to what number each piece should get. 42 is the “Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything.

Life is inevitable.
